When you’re on your honeymoon or a romantic getaway there are very few things as romantic and memorable as taking time to bask in the beauty and majesty of nature. When you honeymoon in Puerto Vallarta there are many ways to do this, but perhaps the most romantic and easy to personalize is visiting one of the many waterfalls that pepper the area around Puerto Vallarta. From Garza Blanca to the hills of Yelapa there are many waterfalls of different sizes and in many different locations. There are three main falls, however, that we would recommend you visit.

Yelapa Waterfall

One of the most accessible Puerto Vallarta waterfalls can be found at the head of a stunning river within the Garza Blanca Preserve and really lend the area an atmosphere of romance. Guests at the Garza Blanca Resort & Spa can take a guided hiking tour to the base of the falls, or you could make your own way there if you like to keep your own time and company. Unfortunately, this waterfall in Puerto Vallarta is only available to guests, members or residents staying at Garza Blanca Resort or Hotel Mousai.

Two other waterfalls can be found south of Puerto Vallarta in Yelapa which is the southernmost town on the shores of Banderas Bay. This tiny, 500 person town is stunningly beautiful and, better yet, the path which leads up to the first waterfall lends a wonderful view of the whole town below. The path is an easy one, and when you get to the bottom you can even get a bite to eat in the restaurant there before taking a dip in the pool at the base of the waterfall. This is the perfect place to get those memorable honeymoon snaps to take home with you!

The second waterfall is a little further out; you’ll have to hike roughly and hour and a half from the town, but don’t worry it’s an easy walk so you won’t be too tired to enjoy it when you get there. Along the way the river sounds will mix with bird and parrot song so you’ll be well and truly mesmerized long before you get to the falls themselves. If you pack a lunch you can sit down with your spouse at the base of the falls and enjoy the romantic view without interruption. This option offers a little more seclusion and privacy to those who wish it. There are very few things that you can do in Puerto Vallarta which will be more romantic than a visit to these falls.

A popular tour from Puerto Vallarta takes visitors to the waterfall at Quimixto. This delightful waterfall is really accessible and there are many tours that offer a horseback trip to the falls. Once you arrive, there is a small snack bar with a simple menu and refreshments. To get to Quimixto, you need to take a water taxi from Boca de Tomatlán or Los Muertos Beach in Puerto Vallarta, otherwise book yourself on a waterfall excursion with a reputable tour operator.
