Timeshare Scams in Puerto Vallarta

Rate this post

Puerto Vallarta’s reputation for timeshare scams is pretty clean and has been for several years, although that hasn’t always been the case. Today, you would be very unfortunate to be met with a deliberate scam in Puerto Vallarta, despite the fact that some timeshare companies’ hard sell policies can appear to be a scam. Even so, it is wise to be cautious, no matter how genuine an offer may be, which is why a quick internet search could save you a lot of money in legal costs!

Timeshare Lies
The timeshare industry often suffers from a bad reputation for being a scam, not so much for the product itself but more so because of unregulated sales staff. While timeshare in general in Puerto Vallarta is not a fraud, you may be met with individual sellers who extend the truth or deliberately mislead you. Most reputable timeshare companies will have strict policies about this for their employees, and lying about the product or its benefits could result in dismissal. That is why it is important to raise any concerns about your timeshare purchase in Puerto Vallarta while you are still inside the salesroom. If you think that the numbers don’t add up, or that the deal seems too good to be true, check it out with a senior member of staff. If your agent has been lying to you, this will soon come to light once you verify it with their boss!

Bogus Sellers and Government Regulations
Another common scam that was popular in Puerto Vallarta in the past was the presence of bogus sellers who did not represent a genuine timeshare developer and who were selling timeshare properties that did not exist. That kind of scam is no longer common in Puerto Vallarta thanks to the intervention of the local Mayor’s office that now issues authorization and ID cards to timeshare promoters or OPCs giving them permission to represent a specific timeshare resort on the street and in public places like the mall or on the Malecon. If you are approached by someone who is not wearing his or her credential, you should ask to see it before agreeing to attend a timeshare presentation. In the event that you feel you have been approached by someone who does not have official authorization to sell timeshare, you should report them to the tourist police who are usually wearing white uniforms.

Genuine Companies
The great thing about buying a timeshare vacation property in Puerto Vallarta is that there are a number of long standing genuine companies selling legitimate units in fantastic resorts. Garza Blanca and The Villagroup timeshare come highly recommended in Puerto Vallarta, both of which have very strict guidelines for their sellers, meaning that you are even less likely to feel like you have been a victim of a scam.
