Puerto Vallarta International Airport Information

Presently, the PVR Airport layout is not efficient due to the numerous flights that arrive within the same time frame. As a result, the airport is packed with travelers, which causes long lines and delays for travelers trying to get through immigration, customs, and baggage claim. In the coming years, experts estimate that more and more visitors will be arriving by plane to Puerto Vallarta. The expansion of the new airport terminal will greatly improve visitors’ experience while traveling to and from Puerto Vallarta. The new terminal will cost approximately seven billion pesos. The new terminal will bring new boarding gates, which means the waiting areas will not be as crowded along with the departure gate should lessen as well. At this time, people that are leaving Puerto Vallarta airport can change their gate in an instant without having a prior notification, which is often very confusing for travelers.

New Terminal Details

Next, the new terminal at the Puerto Vallarta International Airport will be 68,000 square meters in size which correlates to an 150% increase. The expanded airport will be able to handle 10-12 million people arriving each year. Also, they will be adding 11 – 19 additional boarding gates along with 9 – 16 remote boarding gates. Passengers will have additional space, which makes their arrival and departure easier and more enjoyable. They are also adding a redesigned customs and immigration building, too. For instance, approximately fifty-eight documentation counters are going to be added along with an increase from eight to eighteen lines for security filters. Likewise, the migration modules will be increased to a total of thirty. They are adding the newest state-of-the-art for luggage, which means all bags can be scanned before travelers arrive at the airport. They are also adding facial recognition readers as well.

The First Zero Energy Airport Terminal

Last but not least, the most exciting feature with the new terminal at the airport is that it will be the first Zero Energy Airport (NET Zero Certification) in Latin America. The improved airport will assist the environment by reducing carbon dioxide emissions and pollutants. This amazing technology will be installed within seven and a half years which will also include solar panels on the roof of the airport that will lower forty percent of energy consumption. In addition, they plan to reuse one hundred percent of the black, gray, and blue water that comes in and out of the terminal. This new system will also reduce the airport’s water consumption by 35%. Lastly, the introduction of geothermal batteries will reduce the cost of air conditioning as well. The new terminal will have new shops, bars, and restaurants added, too.
