Booking a vacation can be like a minefield if you have children; some destinations are definitively more child-friendly than others, and sometimes doing a little research makes all the difference to the enjoyment of your vacation. So what makes Puerto Vallarta a great choice for families?

Value for Money
Firstly, Puerto Vallarta, and Mexico in general, is great value for money. Your dollars go a lot further and you can treat the whole brood to meals out, excursions and treats without breaking the bank.

Like wise the cost of hotels and resorts are very reasonable and many offer amazing all-inclusive and European Plan deals to suit families. Renting a timeshare condo in Puerto Vallarta is also a great option as the units are usually much bigger than hotel rooms and have kitchens where you can prepare meals and save a some money.

Another bonus is that flights are not too expensive owing to its proximity, which adds a further advantage in that flights are not too long and many are direct.

Weather
You would be hard pushed to hear someone complaining about the weather in Puerto Vallarta. To be honest, you have to be very unlucky to have bad weather throughout the whole of your stay. The summer months can get pretty hot during the heat of the day, but this is also the wet season, so the late afternoon showers or nighttime storms tend to bring the temperature down. Even so, in comparison to other destinations, the temperatures are bearable, seldom rising above 90ºF or so.

In the winter or dry season, the temperatures drop into the 80ºs during the day, and cooler at night, meaning you might need to bring a sweater. For many, November through March is Puerto Vallarta’s best climate – not too hot yet sunny and dry.

Excursions and Attractions
Puerto Vallarta is blessed with both ocean and mountains, meaning that the possibility for excursions is endlessness and full of adventure, with options for all the family. Ocean lovers can take diving tours, whale watching and fishing trips; there is a kids pirate ship that tours the bay during the day and paddle board and kayaking lessons. Kids may wish to go horseback riding into the mountains or along the beach and there are lots of turtle sanctuaries where you can watch baby turtles being released into the ocean. The famed Los Arcos landmark is also a key spot for snorkeling and safe for children to join in with lifejackets.

Safety,
Banderas Bay protects Puerto Vallarta from the open sea, including strong currents, meaning that many of its beaches are safe to swim in and relatively calm. Almost all of Puerto Vallarta’s resorts and hotels are situated on beaches that are perfect for swimming, with the most beautiful beaches towards the south, such as Garza Blanca, Playa Gemelas etc.

Puerto Vallarta is also fairly safe to walk around within the tourist areas at night. For example, the Malecon is buzzing way into the early hours of the morning and you will feel quite safe with your children walking in this area anytime before midnight. There are lots of police in the key tourist hotspots, so it is very unlikely that you will see any trouble, although you should always keep your wits about you.
