You often wonder if you should rent a condo or a home for your vacation, but a couple of things that you definitely want with your vacation rental is plenty of space, and close to everything. When you do finally arrive to your vacation rental you want the vacation rental to be exactly what you expected it to be, and it should be for the price that you agreed to pay.
Don’t take these things for granted, because many times things don’t happen like you want them to when you are booking your vacation rental. There are a few tips that can protect you from having a bad experience with vacation rentals in another country.
• Book Through an Agency
Booking through an agency is an excellent idea if you can’t do it yourself. The agency can provide you a list of rentals that is curated. These curated properties will be vetted by the agency, and many times they will only show you a few of the curated properties, and these are higher priced rentals, but they will be offered by the agency and not just a person making an advertisement.
• Have Someone Check out the Property
You may be too far to check out the property, but if you can, then this is always best, because you will be able to see where the rental is located at, what is near, and what it looks like in person. You can walk through the rental and see how much space is provided. If you can’t look yourself, then you will want to think about having a rental agency do it for you. They can send you current photos of the property, so you can see what it looks like before you book it. Better still, ask for a video.
• Make Sure There are No Damages
It is very important that when you arrive at your vacation rental that you go through the rental and make sure there are no damages left by the previous renter. Have your agent go with you, make a list, and sign the list, so you aren’t charged for any damages. When you are ready to get your deposit back, then they won’t try to charge you for any damages.
• Use a Credit Card rather than Cash
Always, always pay for your vacation rental with a credit card, and never pay with cash. The credit card will give you receipts, and documentation that you need if there is a cancellation. This is the best type of evidence you need, because you paid with a credit card. Sometimes, if you are renting directly from the owner, credit cards are not a viable option. In such cases, you would be best to pay for half before you arrive and the other half when you arrive.
